Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Certificate Program
Faculty Saundra Herndon Oyewole, Professor of Biology (Program Director) DescriptionThe Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Certificate Program is designed for students with baccalaureate degrees who wish to pursue a career in medicine or other health professions, but have not taken the basic science and mathematics courses required for admission to medical school. This is not a remedial program for students who wish to retake prerequisite courses. The required courses are an integral part of the College of Arts and Sciences natural sciences and mathematics programs. The College of Arts and Sciences is the undergraduate women’s college of the University; therefore, the Post-Baccalaureate Program is open only to women. The Program is tailored to the needs of the individual student. Students also have the opportunity to take advanced courses in math and science, if they have the appropriate prerequisites. Students in the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Certificate Program have full access to Trinity’s Health Professions Advisory Committee. The Committee provides academic advising as well as guidance through the medical school application process. A student must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in courses taken at Trinity, and complete more than half of the required science and mathematics courses at Trinity to receive a letter of recommendation from the TrinityHealth Professions Advisory Committee. Certificate Requirements and Course SequenceThe Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Certificate Program can be completed in one to two years depending on the student's academic background in science and mathematics. Placement in the appropriate math course will be based on the student's skill level as determined by a review of her undergraduate transcript, or, if necessary, a math placement test. Each student will be advised on the appropriate course of study based on her academic background. The course sequence provided below would apply only to those students who have not taken any of the premedical requirements prior to enrolling in the Trinity Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Certificate Program.
